Harold Jeffrey Mays, a 21-year-old commercial fisherman, was last seen on November 13, 1980, off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. On that day, Mays and his friend, Ted Wall, ventured into the Atlantic Ocean in a 23-foot Sea Ox boat for a fishing trip. The boat, known for its unsinkable design, encountered mechanical trouble, but another fisherman helped the pair restart the engine. Shortly after, both Mays and Wall, along with the boat, vanished.
