Cecilia Newball, 31 years old and eight months pregnant, was last seen on September 20, 1994, in Chatsworth, California, along with her 6-year-old son, Rene Perez. Cecilia’s husband, Alfredo Newball, reported that she was at home writing thank-you notes when he left for work. However, when he returned, both Cecilia and Rene were gone. Oddly, Cecilia's car was parked on the street rather than in their secured garage, and her personal belongings, including her rings, were left behind. A store-bought goodbye card was found inside her car, but it raised suspicion due to its impersonal nature.
A few days after the disappearance, Alfredo received a typewritten letter allegedly from Cecilia, claiming she had left with a doctor named "Arturo" and was moving to Honduras. However, friends and investigators doubted the letter’s authenticity, suspecting foul play. Cecilia’s friends stated she was happily married and would not leave without telling anyone, especially given her advanced pregnancy. Investigators also uncovered suspicious phone calls Cecilia had received months prior, which fueled concerns that someone might have been planning to deceive her.
To this day, neither Cecilia nor Rene have been found, and foul play is suspected in their disappearance. Authorities have long believed that Alfredo may have more information than he has revealed, although he maintains that Cecilia and Rene left voluntarily. The case remains unsolved, and both mother and son are still listed as missing.
