Troy Kenneth Nelms, a 71-year-old man, was last seen on June 5, 2006, at the Paragon Gardens Board and Care Home in Mission Viejo, California. Nelms, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, had been living in the care facility since December 2005 due to his tendency to wander and his difficulty communicating. On the morning of his disappearance, an employee saw him in his room around 5:30 a.m., but by 6:30 a.m., he was missing.
Despite extensive search efforts involving bloodhounds, helicopters, and deputies, no trace of him was found.
Nelms had recently undergone surgery for a hip fracture, which limited his mobility, making his disappearance even more concerning. At the time, he was not carrying any identification or money and was likely confused. He was last seen wearing a dark blue sweatsuit or blue jeans, along with dark blue slippers and a silver Alzheimer's Alert bracelet. His case remains unsolved, and a lawsuit was filed against the facility following his disappearance, alleging negligence in their supervision of residents.
