On a cold December day in 2009, 55-year-old Daria Finn was last seen in Onancock, Virginia. It was December 17th when she and her partner, Robin Lamb, set out from a private dock on Savage Lane. They boarded Lamb's 31-foot Chris Craft cabin cruiser, named the 'Play Write,' with a plan to travel to a marina in Colonial Beach, Virginia, for some maintenance work on the boat.
The two women, however, would never reach their intended destination, marking the beginning of a long and sorrowful mystery for their loved ones and community. Finn, a woman with red hair and green eyes, stood at 5-foot-8 and weighed around 121 pounds at the time of her disappearance.
Days turned into a week with no word from Finn or Lamb. The grim news began to unfold on December 22, 2009. Debris from a boat, along with the body of a woman, washed ashore in the Nassawadox, Virginia area of Northampton County. Two days later, on Christmas Eve, the remains were identified as those of Robin Lamb. An extensive search was launched by the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Northampton County Sheriff's Office, but there was no sign of Daria Finn or the 'Play Write.' The discovery of Lamb and the boat's wreckage pointed to a tragic boating accident on the Chesapeake Bay.
The passing of time has not brought any answers regarding the whereabouts of Daria Finn. She is presumed to have perished at sea alongside her partner. Finn was a multifaceted individual with a marketing degree from Fordham University who had worked in construction, as a photojournalist covering race cars, and had even authored two successful plays. The community was left to mourn the loss of two vibrant individuals described by friends as 'larger than life.' While Robin Lamb was laid to rest, the family and friends of Daria Finn were left with the unending pain of her absence.
