In the late September of 2011, a 26-year-old mother of two, Christina Renee Bussell, vanished from the small community of Winfield, Tennessee. She was last seen on foot along Highway 27, a route she often traveled, near the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. At the time of her disappearance, Christina, a resident of Scott County, did not own a car and frequently walked to her destinations. It is believed she may have been heading towards Pine Knot, Kentucky, a town she was known to visit. Her mother officially reported her missing on September 30, 2011, the same day she was reportedly seen in Kentucky. Described as a white female with long brown hair, blue eyes, and pierced ears, Christina has a distinctive butterfly tattoo on her back shoulder blade that incorporates the names of her two children. The circumstances surrounding Christina's disappearance were immediately considered suspicious by the Scott County Sheriff's Department. Her family and friends were adamant that her sudden silence was entirely out of character. Christina was known to be in daily contact with her loved ones, and her unannounced departure was a source of great alarm. Her sister recalled her as a happy person who was always trying to make others laugh. While it is known that Christina had struggled with drug use prior to her disappearance, it has never been clear if this was a factor in her case. The lack of any communication from her was a significant deviation from her normal behavior, leading her family and law enforcement to suspect that she had met with foul play.
