Cynthia Jabour, a 47-year-old real estate agent, was a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, where she had been in an intermittent relationship with a man named Robert Weeks for nearly six years. Friends of Jabour described her as being weary of Weeks's jealous and controlling behavior and noted her intention to definitively end their relationship. On the evening of October 5, 1980, Jabour had a dinner date scheduled with Weeks, a meeting she had told friends she would use as the opportunity to
break up with him. The last confirmed sighting of Cynthia Jabour was at 10:30 p.m. in the lobby of Weeks's condominium building in Las Vegas. She has not been seen or heard from since that night.
Following two days of silence from her friend, a concerned individual gained entry into Jabour's apartment to check on her welfare. Inside, there was no sign of a struggle or any indication of where Jabour might have gone. All of her personal belongings, including expensive clothing and a significant amount of money in a securities account, appeared to be untouched. Sometime after she was reported missing, Jabour's car was discovered abandoned in the parking lot of Caesar's Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. When questioned by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Robert Weeks claimed that Jabour had canceled their dinner plans for the night she disappeared and denied having any knowledge of her whereabouts.
The investigation into Cynthia Jabour's disappearance took a significant turn when it was discovered that Weeks had a pattern of women close to him vanishing under similar circumstances. His ex-wife, Patricia Weeks, had disappeared in 1968, and another girlfriend, Carol Ann Riley, would go missing in 1986. In each case, the woman had intended to end her relationship with Weeks shortly before she was last seen, and their cars were later found abandoned. Weeks, who had left the country shortly after Jabour's disappearance and was living under an alias, was eventually apprehended in 1987. In a landmark case for the state of Nevada, Robert Weeks was convicted in April 1988 of the murders of both Cynthia Jabour and his ex-wife, Patricia, marking the first time a murder conviction had been secured without the victim's body being found. He was sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 1996, never having been charged in connection with Carol Ann Riley's disappearance.
