Rachel Ann Rhodes, a 20-year-old nursing student from Guerneville, California, disappeared on February 1, 1998, while spending the day at Stump Beach in Sonoma County. She had planned to explore tide pools with her boyfriend, Jason Rolle, and the two were expected to return home by early evening. When they failed to return, their families reported them missing the following day. Investigators found Rolle's red Mazda parked at the beach with personal belongings inside, but there was no sign of the couple.
Despite an extensive three-day search of the ocean and surrounding areas, neither Rachel nor Jason were found. Authorities suspect that they were swept out to sea and drowned, although their bodies have never been recovered. A month after their disappearance, memorial services were held for both of them.
At the time, Rachel was a dedicated nursing student at Santa Rosa Junior College, balancing her studies with volunteer work at a hospital and a full-time job at a school supply store. Her case remains classified as a lost/injured missing person, and despite the lack of closure, the investigation remains open.
