In the quiet landscape of Coal County, Oklahoma, a day of searching for historical artifacts took a turn that would leave a family with unanswered questions for years to come. On March 14, 1999, 34-year-old Kevin Morris Farris, a man with sandy blonde hair and distinctive tattoos, was spending his day engaged in a pastime he enjoyed: hunting for arrowheads with two friends near Clarita. At some point during their search, a sound near his white pickup truck drew his attention. He went to investigate the noise alone and was never seen or heard from again. His friends, after waiting for him, found his truck where he had parked it but Kevin was gone. They left a note for him on the windshield before leaving the area on foot. Kevin was a man of notable appearance, standing at five feet tall and weighing around 135 pounds. His appearance was characterized by his long, wavy, light-colored hair which he wore past his shoulders, a mustache, and a short beard. He had several scars, including some across his chest and one on his forehead. Perhaps most distinctly, he had 32 tattoos, many of which were of a Harley-Davidson or motorcycle theme, with skull designs also being prominent. On the day he vanished, he was in the vicinity of Tupelo, Oklahoma, an area that would become the focal point of the initial search for him. The days that followed his disappearance were filled with uncertainty and growing concern. The Coal County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation into his case on March 26, 1999. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also became involved in the search for answers. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, the trail grew cold, and the specific details surrounding what happened to Kevin Farris that day have remained elusive. Authorities have expressed the belief that he may have been a victim of foul play. His white pickup truck was recovered, but it offered no clues as to his whereabouts. The investigation into what happened to Kevin Farris is a story of a day that began with a simple hunt for arrowheads and ended in a lasting mystery that has left a family searching for answers.
