On April 11, 2000, 12-year-old Cameron Anderson, along with his brother Kyle and sister Rachel, disappeared from Fulton, Mississippi. The siblings were believed to be in the company of their non-custodial mother, Lesley Anderson. Cameron, who often went by the nickname C.J., had blond hair and blue eyes and wore eyeglasses. The last confirmed sighting of Cameron at his school was on April 10, 2000, just a day before the family vanished. Concerns for the children's welfare grew after they missed a scheduled visit with their father, Jeff Anderson, who had legal visitation rights.
The circumstances surrounding their disappearance are troubling. Jeff and Lesley Anderson had divorced in 1997, after which Jeff moved to Indiana while Lesley relocated to Mississippi with Cameron, Kyle, Rachel, and two of Lesley's older children from a previous relationship, Stephanie and Greg, whom Jeff had adopted. According to the divorce agreement, the children were supposed to call their father every Saturday, but these calls had become increasingly infrequent leading up to their disappearance. When Jeff tried to arrange his summer visitation for 2000, he was told by Lesley's roommate that she had left in the middle of the night with a truck driver, taking the three younger children with her. Ominously, she left her two older, mentally disabled children, Stephanie and Greg, behind in the roommate's care. The roommate's account of events has reportedly been inconsistent.
A significant point of concern is the lack of any trace of the children or their mother since April 2000. No school has ever requested the children's academic records, and no medical professionals have asked for their medical histories. Furthermore, there has been no activity on Lesley's credit record, nor any indication that she has held a job since her disappearance. A brown 1981 Chevrolet Caprice station wagon, initially thought to be the vehicle they left in, was later found abandoned on the family's property. The case, initially considered a family abduction, is now viewed with greater concern for the safety of Cameron, his siblings, and his mother due to the extended period without any contact or evidence of their whereabouts. The Indiana State Police are investigating the case, which remains unresolved.
