Denise Ledbetter, 39, a Black woman, was found shot outside 231 Talbot Avenue in Mattapan on the evening of October 16, 2007. Responding officers from Boston Police Area B-3 arrived just before 8 p.m. after reports of gunfire. She was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. At the scene, police also discovered a second victim—a 21-year-old man—inside the building who was treated for non–life-threatening injuries.
Detectives identified her publicly within two days and appealed for tips as they began piecing together what happened on Talbot Avenue. City records and subsequent departmental listings continue to note her killing as a homicide that remains under investigation, placing the address and date among Boston’s unresolved cases from that year.
Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with her death, nor have they publicly identified a suspect.
