Denise Ledbetter, 39, a Black woman, was found shot outside 231 Talbot Avenue in Mattapan on the evening of October 16, 2007. Responding officers from Boston Police Area B-3 arrived just before 8 p.m. after reports of gunfire. She was rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. At the scene, police also discovered a second victim—a 21-year-old man—inside the building who was treated for non–life-threatening injuries.
