In the spring of 2001, in Longview, Washington, a one-year-old boy named Jose Adolfo Garcia was spending time with his father. On April 19th, the boy's non-custodial father, Alvaro Carrillo Garcia, indicated they were heading to Portland, Oregon, for a quick errand. Alvaro was supposed to bring Jose back to his legal guardian later that same day, but they never returned. At the time of his disappearance, Jose was described as a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. He had a birthmark on each side of his rib cage and was also noted as being bowlegged. The disappearance prompted an immediate investigation by the Longview Police Department. As the search for young Jose continued, official warrants were issued for his father. In November 2001, a felony warrant for custodial interference was put out for Alvaro Carrillo Garcia. This was followed by a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, issued by the FBI on March 28, 2002. Authorities believe Alvaro left the country with his son and traveled to Mexico. Alvaro, who was 21 years old at the time, has a distinguishing characteristic of a lazy left eye. He has connections to the areas of Oaxaca and Nogales in Mexico. Years have passed since Jose was last seen, but efforts to locate him have not ceased. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has released several age-progressed photos over the years, showing what Jose might look like as a teenager and a young man, in the hope that someone might recognize him. The case is classified as a family abduction, a painful situation where a child is taken by a parent in violation of a custody agreement. The investigation remains open, representing a decades-long search for a child who was taken from his home and is believed to be living in another country.
