Richard Alicea, a 30-year-old man, went missing on December 12, 2009, after leaving Haulover Beach Marina in Miami, Florida, with his friend Edwin Pritchard. The two men were on a boating trip to Bimini, Bahamas, a journey they had successfully completed before. However, they never arrived at their destination. On the day of their departure, there was a small craft warning in effect, with dangerous conditions at sea, including strong winds and choppy waters.
Alicea and Pritchard were traveling in a white center-console Key Largo boat. After an extensive six-day search by the U.S. Coast Guard, covering over 47,000 miles, no trace of the men was found. Later, parts of a boat matching the description of their vessel were discovered on an uninhabited island in the Bahamas, but neither man has been located. Authorities believe they were lost at sea, though they remain officially listed as missing.
