On June 17, 2010, 43-year-old Kevin Dwayne Hardy began his day like any other at a construction site in Safford, Arizona. He was expected to meet his father and even called him around 10:00 a.m. to say he was on his way. However, Kevin never arrived at his destination and seemingly vanished. His disappearance initiated a period of uncertainty and a prolonged search for answers for his family and the community. At the time he went missing, he may have had a beard and was known to wear wire-rimmed glasses. He often wore his shoulder-length brown hair pulled back in a ponytail.

Several days after he was last heard from, a significant development in the case occurred when his truck was discovered in a remote area of the Cluff Wildlife Refuge. An official with the Arizona Game & Fish Department found the vehicle situated amongst some mesquite trees off a side road. The official reported that the truck appeared to have been in that same spot for about a week. Inside the abandoned truck was Kevin's wallet, but his keys and cell phone were missing. There were some inconclusive reports that he had been seen wandering in the area that weekend, but these sightings could not be confirmed.

The discovery of his truck prompted a comprehensive search and rescue operation in the rugged terrain surrounding the Cluff Wildlife Refuge. Volunteers from the Graham County Search and Rescue team scoured the area on foot and with all-terrain vehicles. The search efforts were extensive, involving the Graham County Sheriff on horseback, a helicopter, and a search dog from the Arizona Department of Corrections. Despite the nearly eight-hour intensive search, no trace of Kevin Hardy was found. Searchers were unable to locate any tracks or other evidence that might indicate his direction of travel or what might have happened to him. Since his disappearance, there has been no activity on his cell phone or with his Social Security number. The family has offered a reward for information that could lead to his whereabouts, a testament to their enduring hope for closure. The case remains an active missing person investigation, a painful mystery for a family left with unanswered questions about the fate of their loved one.
