In the late hours of June 7, 2011, a 52-year-old woman named Karen Vanessa Young was at her boyfriend's apartment in Detroit, Michigan, when an argument sparked a decision that would lead to her vanishing. It was around 11:30 p.m. at the Roberts III Apartments, located on Grand River Avenue, where she and her boyfriend of one year, Randall Childs, were with some other people. Following the disagreement, Karen arranged for a ride to pick her up and left the sixth-floor apartment. Randall followed her downstairs, intending to see her off safely. From that moment, neither Karen Young nor Randall Childs were ever seen or heard from again, disappearing into the Detroit night. The circumstances surrounding their disappearance are deeply troubling for their loved ones. Karen, a Black female with brown hair and brown eyes, wore glasses and had a distinctive dark birthmark on the front of her neck and a scar near her elbow. At the time she went missing, she was wearing a cream-colored top, black pinstriped pants, and a black necktie. Shortly before she vanished, she had been laid off from her job with Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department. Family members have expressed that it was completely out of character for either Karen or Randall to leave without any warning or contact. The fact that Karen reportedly left her purse and personal belongings behind in the apartment further suggests they did not plan to disappear. Years have passed without any concrete answers, leaving both families in a state of perpetual grief and uncertainty. The families have conducted tireless searches, visiting hospitals and even morgues in their desperate quest for information. Karen's daughter has questioned the official narrative, expressing uncertainty about whether her mother and Randall ever actually left the apartment building that night. She recalled her mother calling from an acquaintance's phone earlier in the evening to say she had business to take care of. A chilling development emerged when Randall's sister received a cryptic, multi-page letter from a prison inmate, someone she had written to years prior believing they might have witnessed something the night of the disappearance. Though the letter was turned over to the Detroit Police Department, it has so far only added to the mystery rather than providing clarity.
