On a cold December morning in 2011, two-year-old Bianca Lily Jones vanished in Detroit, Michigan. Her father, D'Andre Lane, reported that he was carjacked at gunpoint and that the assailants drove off with his daughter still in her car seat. The vehicle was discovered a short time later, but Bianca was gone. This initial report sparked a massive search effort, with police and numerous volunteers combing through the city's neighborhoods hoping to find the missing toddler. Bianca was last seen wearing a pink dress, pink tights, a purple coat with gold piping, and pink shoes. She has a dimple on her left cheek, a scar under her big toe on her left foot, and a circular birthmark on her back. As the investigation progressed, law enforcement began to question the father's account of the events. Investigators found inconsistencies in his story, and their focus soon shifted to him as the primary suspect. Prosecutors developed a different and deeply disturbing theory of what happened to Bianca. They alleged that there was no carjacking and that Lane had fabricated the story to conceal a horrific act. According to the prosecution, Lane, who was reportedly strict about potty training, became enraged after Bianca had an accident. They contended that he beat the young child to death. This version of events was supported by the testimony of Bianca's older sister, who said she saw her father carry a motionless Bianca, covered by a blanket, to the car. Further evidence presented by the prosecution included the use of a cadaver dog, which reportedly detected the scent of human remains in several locations, including Bianca's car seat, her bed, and in her father's car. Despite the fact that Bianca's body has never been located, her father was charged with and ultimately convicted of first-degree murder and child abuse. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Throughout the trial and in the years since, Lane has maintained his innocence, insisting that his daughter is still alive. The case remains a tragic and unresolved story, with a father imprisoned for a murder where the victim's body has never been found, and a little girl who vanished without a trace. There have been some reported sightings of a child resembling Bianca in the years following her disappearance, including one by a police officer, but none of these leads have resulted in her recovery.
