On November 5, 1985, 20-year-old Stephen J. Harris and his 21-year-old brother, Robert W. Harris, were last seen in Jamestown, Rhode Island. The brothers left a note at their residence indicating they were going fishing at Fort Wetherill State Park and planned to return by 4:00 p.m. that day. When they failed to come home, their concerned father went to the park to search for them.
Upon arriving at the park, the brothers' father discovered their vehicle parked and locked.
Near the water on the rocks, he found one of their fishing poles and a bait container, but there was no sign of Stephen or Robert. An extensive search of the area was conducted, but the brothers were never located.
At the time of his disappearance, Stephen was described as a white male, approximately 5'5" tall and weighing around 150 pounds, with brown hair. His eye color is listed as unknown. While the specific clothing they were wearing is unknown, it was noted that one of the brothers often wore a red vest. Robert had recently been discharged from the United States Marine Corps in September 1985, after serving with the 2nd Marine Division since 1982.
The leading theory in their disappearance is that they may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned, possibly due to rough weather conditions, but their bodies have never been recovered. The case remains unsolved, and both Stephen and his brother Robert are still considered missing persons.
