In the summer of 2023, a family's life was forever changed when 36-year-old Kristopher Joseph Lee Billette vanished from a close-knit community in Saskatchewan. Kristopher, a male of Indigenous ethnicity, was last seen on the Buffalo River Dene First Nation on July 14, 2023. He was a towering figure at approximately 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, with medium-length black hair, brown eyes, and a goatee. His distinctive features included a pierced left ear, a surgical scar on his left forearm, and two tattoos: a skull and sword on his right forearm and the words “CS Canada†on his left ankle. When he was last seen, there was some initial confusion about his clothing; he was first reported as wearing a camouflage sweater, but the description was later updated by the Saskatchewan RCMP to a white shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. Two days after he was last seen, on the evening of July 16, 2023, Kristopher Billette was officially reported missing to the Dillon RCMP. Authorities immediately began checking places he was known to frequent and following up on any information they received. An extensive and thorough search was launched in the area of the Buffalo River Dene Nation and along Highway 925, but frustratingly, no trace of Kristopher was found. As the search continued, investigators made a public plea to residents within the Buffalo River Dene Nation and those living along Highway 925, asking them to meticulously check their properties, especially any outbuildings, for any sign of Kristopher or any clothing or items that seemed out of place. There were some initial thoughts that he may have traveled to Prince Albert or North Battleford, but this could not be confirmed. As weeks turned into months, the search for Kristopher Billette continued, with his case becoming one of Saskatchewan's long-term missing persons investigations. His disappearance has left a void in the lives of his loved ones and the community. In an effort to keep his memory alive and to generate new leads, his story has been shared as part of Missing Persons Week in Saskatchewan, a somber event that honors the many individuals who have vanished without a trace. The investigation into what happened to Kristopher remains active, a painful and unresolved chapter for his family. The overview of the case is a heart-wrenching one: a man with a distinct appearance, last seen in a specific location, who seemingly vanished despite extensive search efforts, leaving behind a family and community grappling with unanswered questions and the enduring hope for his return.
