In the late winter of 1995, a young man's disappearance from southern Oregon would leave his family and community with decades of unanswered questions. On March 9, 1995, 17-year-old James Martin Monti was last seen in the city of Klamath Falls. At the time he went missing, he was described as a white male with blond or strawberry-blond hair and blue eyes, standing at 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. The circumstances surrounding the day he vanished are sparse, and what was initially thought to be a case of a teenage runaway has evolved into a prolonged and troubling mystery. Very few details about James's activities on the day he disappeared have been made public, creating a void of information for those who have sought answers in the many years since. Investigators at the time expressed a belief that the teenager may have left of his own accord, classifying his case as an endangered runaway. However, as days turned into weeks, and weeks into years without any contact, the initial theory has done little to ease the minds of those who knew him.
