On a day in early December 1998, 45-year-old Kari Lind informed her husband of her plans for the day: she was going shopping and then for a walk at Catalina State Park in Catalina, Arizona. This was the last time she was seen. At the time of her disappearance, Lind was described as a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes, standing at 5'6' and weighing approximately 125 pounds. It was also known that she was grappling with a debilitating disease, which had led to a state of depression.
Her husband was later to discover a note his wife had left behind, a note that alarmingly stated her intention to go to Catalina State Park to die and that she would not be coming back. This distressing discovery prompted an immediate and thorough search of the area. Lind's vehicle was soon located, abandoned within the park's boundaries, confirming she had made it to her intended destination. Despite the focused location, extensive and exhaustive searches of the park grounds, involving both air and ground teams, were conducted. Tragically, these efforts yielded no trace of Kari Lind.
The investigation into her disappearance, led by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, has been ongoing, but has yet to provide any definitive answers as to her whereabouts. The circumstances surrounding her case, particularly the note she left, have led to classifications of her disappearance as 'lost/injured missing' and also point towards the possibility of suicide or an accident. The case remains unsolved, a lingering mystery for her family and the community.
