On a seemingly ordinary evening in Scottsdale, Arizona, 28-year-old Sherry Ann Daugherty vanished, leaving behind a mystifying case that continues to raise questions decades later. On August 29, 1991, Sherry, a petite woman with brown hair and brown eyes, was living with her boyfriend in an apartment near 62nd Street and Shea Boulevard. According to her boyfriend's account, Sherry asked for money to buy a bathing suit and left their home around 8:00 p.m., presumably heading to a nearby Target store in Paradise Valley. This was the last time she was reportedly seen by him. Concern grew when she did not return home that night, prompting her family to begin a search for her. The initial search by her family led to a troubling discovery. Sherry's green El Camino was found in the parking lot of the Target she was believed to have been going to, but it was parked a significant distance from the store's entrance. A more unsettling detail was that the driver's seat had been pushed far back, adjusted for someone much taller than Sherry's petite 5-foot-3-inch frame. Further adding to the mystery, her purse, wallet, and identification were all found back at the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, suggesting she may not have intended to be gone for long. Investigators quickly suspected that foul play was involved in her disappearance. Witnesses later came forward to state they had seen her alive two days before she was officially reported missing, adding another layer of complexity to the timeline of her last known movements. Suspicion in Sherry's disappearance has long been focused on her live-in boyfriend, with whom she also worked as a tree trimmer. It was reported that their relationship had a history of domestic violence. Over the years, unsettling rumors have emerged, including allegations from multiple people that her boyfriend bragged about committing the perfect crime. Some of these claims included disturbing details about him allegedly disposing of her body with a wood chipper, a piece of equipment accessible to him through his landscaping work. Another theory was that he might have disposed of her remains with a load of palm branches at a dump. Despite these serious allegations and a history of other legal issues, including arrests for DWI, assault, and drug violations, a lack of physical evidence has prevented any arrests from being made in connection with Sherry's disappearance. The Phoenix Police Department has continued to investigate the case over the years, but it has grown cold. The absence of concrete evidence has left Sherry's family without answers and her case remains an unsolved and deeply felt mystery in the community.
