In the late summer of 1999, a family's life was unalterably changed. On September 7th, 39-year-old Howard Lee Ellis, a Black male, was at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina. For reasons that remain unclear, at 2:20 in the afternoon, he walked out of the hospital before being officially discharged. This would be the last time he was ever seen or heard from.
