In the late summer of 2004, the community of Goldsboro, North Carolina, grew concerned for one of its own, 83-year-old Johnnie Williams. Known affectionately by many as the 'Can Man,' Mr. Williams was a familiar sight, often seen riding his black mountain bike with a light on the front and a reflector on the back, diligently collecting cans to earn money.
