Diana Raquel Rojas, a 27-year-old woman, was last seen on October 20, 2000, in Long Beach, California. She had been in the process of divorcing her husband, Americo Rojas, and lived in an apartment on Ackerfield Avenue. After dropping off her 2-year-old daughter for a court-ordered visitation with Americo on October 19, Diana returned to her apartment with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend left around 12:15 a.m. on October 20, leaving her asleep on the couch. She was never seen or heard from again.
The day after her disappearance, both Diana and her black 1992 Nissan pickup truck, which had Texas plates, were reported missing. A search of her apartment revealed a small amount of blood on the couch and other unusual items, but there were no signs of forced entry. Diana had previously expressed fear of her estranged husband, Americo, and had taken out a restraining order against him. Her family suspected foul play, especially as Diana had been fighting for full custody of her daughter, whom Americo raised after Diana's disappearance, cutting off all contact with her side of the family.
