In the summer of 1976, a young woman named Star Joy Dodson vanished, leaving behind a mysterious and unsettling silence. At 21 years old, with blonde hair and blue eyes, Star was last seen on July 10th in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. She was reportedly at Legion Memorial Park with her boyfriend, Daniel Dupnock. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing blue jeans and a blue denim jacket that had a patch on it. Living in Gallitzin, but with some reports stating she was last seen in Ebensburg, the exact details of what happened that day remain unclear. Star, one of eight children, had experienced tragedy early in life when her father passed away in 1961. The weeks following Star's disappearance only deepened the mystery. On July 27, seventeen days after Star was last seen, her boyfriend, Daniel Dupnock, was found deceased in his car in a wooded area near Cresson Township. His death was ruled a suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. Inside his vehicle, authorities discovered women's clothing, but they were never confirmed to belong to Star. The circumstances surrounding Dupnock's death have led to much speculation over the years. It remains unknown what, if any, information he may have had about Star's whereabouts or what transpired in the days between her disappearance and his death. The case of Star Joy Dodson is still considered a suspected homicide, and foul play is suspected in her disappearance. Very little information has been publicly released about the investigation, and it is unclear if there were any other persons of interest. The questions of what happened to Star, and what Daniel Dupnock knew, have lingered for decades, leaving her family and community without answers. The lack of resolution has left a void, a story without an ending, and a young woman's fate unknown. The Pennsylvania State Police in Ebensburg continue to hold the case file, a silent testament to a life that seemingly vanished without a trace.
