In the late spring of 2014, Amanda DeGuio, a 24-year-old female, had just returned to her family's home in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, after a trip to Florida with her mother, sister, and two young daughters. On June 3, she vanished from the residence, leaving behind all of her personal belongings, including her cell phone, credit cards, and extra clothing. Amanda did not drive, and it remains unknown how she left her home that day. At the time she went missing, she was described as being between 5'1" and 5'3" tall and weighing between 100 and 120 pounds, with blue eyes and long brown hair, though she was known to wear wigs. She has several distinct tattoos, including lips on her right buttock, the shape of Italy on her right side, and the name "Tommy" under her right breast. Amanda's life included struggles with bipolar disorder and substance abuse. Her addiction to opiates began with a prescription for painkillers following complications from childbirth. Over time, this dependency reportedly progressed to heroin use. Her family was aware of her struggle with prescription pills but has said they did not know about the heroin. In the weeks before she disappeared, her sister had discovered an online escort advertisement featuring Amanda. The family had grown increasingly concerned, and her disappearance occurred as they were planning an intervention to get her help. Her family did not immediately report her missing, as she had a history of leaving for a few days at a time, though she had always stayed in contact before. They officially filed a missing person's report on August 27, 2014. The years since Amanda's disappearance have been marked by a painful and frustrating search for answers for her family. They have hired a private investigator, and both the Upper Darby Police Department and the FBI have been involved in the case. The investigation has explored numerous leads, many of which pointed toward the Kensington section of Philadelphia, though reported sightings there and elsewhere have not led to her discovery. In 2018, the case was reclassified from a missing person search to a criminal investigation, with authorities stating they believe foul play was involved. A significant development occurred in September 2022, when local, state, and federal law enforcement executed a search warrant on a property in Nottingham, Chester County, based on a new tip. Despite a massive search effort that included draining a septic tank, the search did not yield a major break in the case. The investigation into Amanda DeGuio's disappearance remains active. Her two daughters are being raised by their grandmother, who, along with the rest of Amanda's family, continues to hold out hope for answers and closure.
