In the winter of 2012, concern grew for 69-year-old Willie Clayton Reynolds, a resident of Montgomery County, Alabama, after his family was unable to make contact with him. His loved ones last saw him at his home on Atley Road on the evening of December 19, 2012, and spoke with him the following day. It was uncharacteristic for Mr. Reynolds to be out of touch, as he typically communicated with his family daily.
He was known to suffer from high blood pressure and Paget's Disease, a bone disorder that could cause disorientation, and he was in need of his medication. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Black male with graying black hair and brown eyes, standing between 5'1' and 5'8' tall, and weighing between 165 and 180 pounds. He was believed to be wearing a blue jacket, a white shirt, and blue jeans.
The timeline of Mr. Reynolds' last known movements paints a fragmented picture. On December 21, an employee of the Auburn Police Department reported seeing him with his white 2008 Ford Ranger pickup truck on Highway 29 in Auburn. That same day, another person reported giving him a ride into neighboring Macon County. This individual stated they dropped Mr. Reynolds off at the Y-Grocery store, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and State Highway 80 East. From there, he was reportedly seen walking west on U.S. Highway 29, in the direction of Tuskegee. He has not been heard from since that day. The last reported sighting of him was near Auburn.
A few days later, on December 24, his white Ford Ranger was found abandoned and out of gas at Exit 51 on Highway 29 in Auburn, the same location where the police employee had initially seen him. The discovery of his truck did little to clarify the situation, only deepening the mystery of his whereabouts. Despite possible sightings of him in Lee County after he was reported missing, the case has grown cold over the years. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, along with the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff's Office, have been involved in the investigation.
