In the fall of 1953, the life of a 15-year-old girl named Beverly Catherine Mastny took a turn that would leave her family with unanswered questions for decades. On September 21, Beverly left her home in Broadview Heights, Ohio, with the intention of walking to her high school in nearby Breckville, but she never arrived. Her disappearance marked the beginning of a mystery that has spanned generations. At the time she went missing, Beverly had two-toned, shoulder-length blond hair and blue eyes. The initial days of her disappearance provided few leads, creating a void of information that would come to define her case. The circumstances surrounding Beverly's vanishing became clearer, yet more complex, shortly after she was reported missing. It was discovered that she was not alone. Beverly was seen with a man identified as C.B. Lewis, a local truck driver. The two checked into a hotel or tourist cabin in Medina, Ohio, registering as a married couple. Beverly was reportedly seen the next day walking in the town. This was one of the last known sightings of the teenager. The man she was with, C.B. Lewis, was later located and arrested in Texas for passing bad checks, but Beverly was not with him at the time of his arrest. It is not publicly known if he was questioned extensively about her whereabouts. Over the years, the case grew cold, leaving a permanent space of uncertainty for those who knew and loved Beverly. A possible but unconfirmed sighting of her occurred in El Paso, Texas, a few years later, in either 1956 or 1957, but this lead did not result in finding her. Her case remains an unsolved and active investigation, now in the hands of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Cold Case Task Force. The central facts of the case are that a young girl left for school one day and never made it, was last seen in the company of an older man, and then seemingly vanished. The hope of resolving the mystery surrounding what happened to Beverly Mastny endures, a quiet but persistent question in the heart of Ohio.
