Doris Wurst, a 34-year-old woman from Plantation, Florida, was last seen on November 7, 1974. Along with her, her 3-year-old daughter, Caren Wurst, also disappeared. The two were reported missing on November 12, 1974, from their home in the now-closed Sunshine City Trailer Park. Doris's 1961 Chevrolet Impala was also unaccounted for at the time of their disappearance.
Despite numerous investigations over the years, the case went cold with no leads or evidence emerging until recently. In August 2024, a volunteer sonar team called Sunshine State Sonar, which specializes in locating vehicles in missing person cases, discovered what appeared to be Doris's missing vehicle submerged in a canal near West Broward Boulevard. A SCUBA dive search revealed skeletal remains consistent with an adult and a child inside the car.
The Plantation Police Department has not yet confirmed the identities of the remains, pending verification through DNA and dental records. However, the discovery has provided a long-awaited sense of closure to a case that has troubled the community for decades.
The next of kin have been notified of the discovery, and the investigation continues as authorities work to confirm the identities of the remains.
