In the summer of 2010, Mark Deon Giddens was navigating life in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. At 41 years old, he was making a living by catching and selling fish, a trade that kept him close to the water. It is believed he was using a canoe or another small boat for his work. Friends and family last heard from him through a phone call on July 1, 2010. During the call, he mentioned he was in Louisiana and had plans to travel to Florida. He may have been intending to journey around the U.S. coast. After that phone call, communication from Mark ceased, and he has not been heard from since. Mark is described as a white male with red or auburn hair and blue eyes, standing between 6'0" and 6'3" and weighing between 140 and 170 pounds. He has a fair and freckled complexion. His distinctive features include a pierced ear and a small homemade tattoo on one of his upper arms. He was known to dress casually, often wearing t-shirts, plaid long-sleeved shirts, and either jeans or cut-off jeans. He was also known to wear steel-toed boots and a watch. The circumstances surrounding Mark's disappearance remain unclear, and very few details are available in his case. The Winfield Police Department in Kansas is handling the investigation, though the reasons for their jurisdiction are not publicly detailed. The case was officially created in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) on February 19, 2016, with a reported date of last contact listed as March 13, 2009, though the last known verbal communication was the phone call in July 2010. The lack of information and the passage of time have left his loved ones without answers, and his case remains an unresolved mystery.
