On a spring afternoon in Pomona, New York, 34-year-old Adrian Genti Gokaj vanished under the most ordinary of circumstances. On April 15, 2016, at approximately 4:20 p.m., he left his apartment on Country Club Lane to take out the garbage and was never seen again. At the time of his disappearance, Adrian, a male with black, balding hair and green eyes, was wearing light gray sweatpants, a long-sleeved blue shirt with white stripes on the sleeves, and gray cloth house slippers. This ordinary task became the starting point of a years-long mystery, deeply concerning for his family due to Adrian's specific vulnerabilities. He had moved to the area from Lodi, New Jersey, only a few months prior and was not familiar with his new surroundings. Adrian lives with several challenging mental and physical health conditions. He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and depression. In addition, he is brain-damaged as a result of two previous car accidents, which has left him mentally disabled. His family noted that he had a history of wandering off, but his unfamiliarity with the Pomona area made this instance particularly alarming. It is believed he was without his prescribed medication, which he had been taking for over a decade, and may have been confused and disoriented. He left his home without his wallet or cell phone, adding to the difficulty of his situation. Though he possessed a driver's license, he did not have access to a car. The Haverstraw Town Police Department opened an investigation into Adrian's disappearance, and his case was entered into national databases for missing persons. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the heartfelt pleas from his family, years have passed without any resolution. There was a suggestion that he might have traveled to the Jacksonville, Florida area, but this lead has not been publicly confirmed. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, and his case is still considered unsolved. The lack of concrete leads has left his family in a state of prolonged uncertainty, holding onto hope while grappling with the painful reality of his absence. The case of Adrian Gokaj is a somber reminder of the silent struggles faced by individuals with mental health challenges and the profound impact these situations have on their loved ones.
