Maria Placz, a 26-year-old woman, was last seen on July 21, 1976, in Ventura, California. Originally from Hungary, Maria had recently moved to the United States. At the time of her disappearance, she was working for Infra-Red Industries in Carpinteria, California, and living in a care center due to her status as a dependent adult.
On the day of her disappearance, her car was found abandoned. Inside the vehicle, her wallet, purse, and a few notes were discovered. These notes suggested that Maria intended to take her own life. Despite this, her body has never been found, and her disappearance remains unsolved. Investigators have continued to search for leads, but no new information has surfaced over the years. The Ventura Police Department is still seeking any tips related to her case.
Her case is classified as an endangered missing person case due to her dependent status, and it remains an unsolved mystery nearly five decades later.
