Six-year-old Rex Hill went missing on May 24, 1980, in Palisades Reservoir, Bonneville County, Idaho, during a tragic boating accident. Rex was with his father, Larry Hill, along with Laddie Schiess and his 10-year-old daughter, Toni, on a fishing trip. The group, traveling in a 14-foot aluminum boat with four other people, encountered rough weather conditions that caused the boat to capsize about 100 yards from shore.
The surface water temperature was approximately 51 degrees, making survival in such conditions extremely difficult.
While four passengers were rescued from the water, including other children, Rex, his father Larry, Laddie, and Toni were not found despite extensive search efforts. The deep water and challenging weather contributed to their presumed drownings. Despite various rescue operations, the bodies of the missing have never been recovered, leaving their families without closure.
