On the afternoon of July 26, 1992, 38-year-old Marilyn Anne Arnhold was last seen at her home in Milton, Washington. According to her husband, the couple had an argument concerning their two young sons, who were not at home at the time. Following the disagreement, Marilyn left the residence without stating her destination or when she might return. She was a licensed practical nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup and was also a high-achieving student at Tacoma Community College, just a week away from graduating with a degree to become a registered nurse. It was considered very out of character for her to miss work. Three days after she was last seen, on July 29, Marilyn's 1967 Mercury Cougar was discovered abandoned. The black and green vehicle was located on Levee Road, beneath the Meridian Street overpass. An investigation of the car and the immediate area showed no indications of a struggle or any other evidence to suggest foul play. Authorities conducted a search of the nearby Puyallup River, but this effort did not yield any clues as to her whereabouts. Despite the circumstances of her departure, Marilyn's family does not believe she would have willingly left her life behind. At the time of her disappearance, she was reportedly experiencing marital issues and had intentions of filing for divorce. However, she had also made several plans for the near future which seemed to indicate she intended to stay in the area. These plans included arranging to breed her purebred Rottweiler, scheduling a visit with her sisters in California for the following week, and completing her college degree. The disappearance of Marilyn Arnhold is considered an endangered missing person case, and the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out. Her case remains unsolved, leaving her family and community with unanswered questions about what happened to the dedicated nurse and mother over three decades ago.
