In the coastal community of Holden Beach, North Carolina, a sense of unease settled over the community following the disappearance of a local man. At the time of his disappearance, Robert was described as a white male with black hair and green eyes, standing at 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing around 175 pounds. He had a noticeable scar on the inside of his leg. When he left that morning, he was believed to be wearing jeans, a sweatshirt, a baseball cap, and deck shoes. He also wore a distinctive Masonic ring and a rope chain. The day progressed without any indication that anything was amiss, but as evening approached, concern began to grow for his safety and whereabouts.

The alarm was raised later that day when, at 6:00 p.m., Robert's boat was discovered adrift and idling in gear off the Sabbath Home Road area of Holden Beach. There was no sign of Robert on the vessel, and his sudden and unexplained absence sparked immediate concern among authorities and his loved ones. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified and promptly initiated a search and rescue operation. For 24 hours, crews scoured the waters off the coast of Holden Beach, hoping to find any trace of the missing boater. Despite their exhaustive efforts, the search yielded no clues as to what may have happened to him. After a full day of searching with no success, the difficult decision was made to call off the official search, leaving his family and the community with a painful void and a multitude of unanswered questions.

The investigation into Robert Dosher's disappearance was taken over by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office. Investigators were faced with a perplexing case with very little evidence to go on.
