Myron Joseph Rapacz, a 55-year-old man, was last seen in the Naknek area of Bristol Bay, Alaska, around August 22, 2005. An avid outdoorsman, Rapacz had moved to Alaska in 1984 to pursue a life as a commercial fisherman. He was the skipper of his own 32-foot gillnet fishing vessel, the Cory B. He was reported missing after a period of high seas in the region. At the time of his disappearance, he was believed to have been heading north from Cape Craig. An adventurous spirit, Myron Rapacz was born in Minnesota and moved to West Seattle with his family in 1957. His love for the outdoors and fishing eventually led him to Alaska in 1983, where he initially worked as a deckhand before making it his permanent home the following year. In Alaska, he embraced a subsistence lifestyle, working as a fisherman in the summer and spending his winters hunting and taking on various jobs. He also dedicated his time to his community, becoming a certified EMT and serving as an ambulance driver for several years. Achieving a personal dream, 2005 was his first year as the skipper of his own boat, the Cory B. Following the report of his disappearance, the U.S. Coast Guard, along with other search parties, initiated a search of the area. During these efforts, searchers discovered some debris from his boat, the Cory B, approximately two to four miles north of Coffee Point. It is believed that a storm in the area caused his vessel to founder. Despite the discovery of the debris, extensive searches by both sea and land yielded no sign of Myron Rapacz. His case remains an unsolved missing person investigation, a tragic end to a life lived in pursuit of a passion for the Alaskan wilderness.
