Darwyn Hope, a 92-year-old man from Boise, Idaho, was last seen on July 11, 2016. He disappeared from his home in the Collister neighborhood, leaving behind both his hearing aids and money. His family reported him missing shortly afterward, raising concerns as he was hearing-impaired and unable to communicate effectively without his aids. Hope was believed to have been suffering from significant physical pain and depression, exacerbated by the unexpected cancellation of a much-needed surgery

Hope may have been driving his silver 2003 Pontiac Bonneville, which also went missing. He had a history of traveling to McCall, Idaho, and authorities considered the possibility that he had headed in that direction. However, his physical condition limited how far he could drive, and foul play soon became a consideration in the case. Police later identified his two sons, Mike and Dale, as persons of interest. Though both took polygraph tests, Mike failed his while Dale's results were inconclusive. Investigators suggested that the brothers may have helped their father end his life and concealed the body, a theory the family has denied.
