In the autumn of 2016, a 66-year-old man named Dane Edward Davis vanished from his home in the Aloha area of Beaverton, Oregon. On the afternoon of October 18th, he was seen checking his mail near his residence on Southwest Jay Street. This seemingly ordinary act would be the last time he was seen. Dane, a retired Wells Fargo employee, was a man living with the challenges of a cognitive impairment diagnosis, which could cause him to become confused and lose his way. His family, aware of his increasing inability to care for himself, was in the process of arranging for him to move into a secure care facility to ensure his safety. This was not the first time Dane had gone missing; he had been reported missing twice before in that same year but was found safe on both occasions. Three days after he was last seen, a caretaker reported him missing, prompting a welfare check by the Washington County Sheriff's Office on October 20th. Deputies arrived at his home to find the door unlocked and the house empty. His car was still parked in the garage, and there was no sign of Dane. Further investigation revealed that his cell phone had not shown any activity since October 13th, five days before he was last seen. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Black male, standing five feet six to five feet seven inches tall, and weighing around 185 pounds, with graying black hair and brown eyes. He was thought to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and was known to frequently wear clothing with the Oakland Raiders logo. The investigation into Dane's disappearance has continued for years, but his whereabouts remain unknown. He was known to enjoy walking and frequented the Hillsboro Promenade shopping center, specifically the Wendy's restaurant and the Albertson's grocery store. He was also known to use public transportation, particularly the MAX trains. Despite public appeals for information and the diligent efforts of his family, the case has grown cold. The circumstances of his disappearance are concerning, given his medical condition and the fact that he left his home unlocked with his vehicle behind. The case of Dane Edward Davis is a quiet and troubling mystery, a story of a vulnerable man who seemingly stepped away from his life one afternoon and has not been heard from since.
