In the winter of 2017, a 34-year-old mother of two named Rebecca 'Becky' Alsup vanished from Williamsville, Missouri, under deeply concerning circumstances. She was last seen on February 17, 2017, at the camping trailer she shared with her husband, Craig Allen Wood, on his parents' property. Alsup was a double leg amputee, a result of a traumatic incident the previous year. She was also known to have a heart condition that required a pacemaker and daily medication to survive.
On the day she was last seen, a friend visited Alsup around 1:00 p.m. and found her in a state of distress. Alsup reported that Wood had stolen money from her, destroyed her phone's SIM card, and had been physically abusive, showing her friend bruises on her cheek and arm. Fearfully, she borrowed the friend's phone to call someone for help, expressing her fear of Wood.
The relationship between Alsup and Wood was described by many as tumultuous. Months before her disappearance, in 2016, Alsup was hospitalized with sepsis, which ultimately led to the amputation of both of her legs. It was alleged that Wood had injected her with 'bong water,' or water from a methamphetamine pipe, which caused the severe infection. While she was in the hospital on life support, Wood reportedly attempted to have the support removed. The circumstances leading up to her disappearance were equally grim. One witness stated that around the time she went missing, Alsup had called them for help, saying Wood was pressuring her to become a police informant after he was caught with drugs and had threatened her life if she refused. By the time the witness arrived to get her, she was gone. Another individual who visited the home on the evening of February 17th saw both Alsup and Wood there. When this person returned the next day, Alsup was nowhere to be found, but they noticed her walker burning in a burn barrel.
