David McAllister was a 22-year-old man who was last seen at his family's home in Bettendorf, Iowa, on May 10, 2017. In the early hours of May 11, 2017, he left the house, telling his family that he would be back later that evening. He has not been seen or heard from since that day. When he left, he was wearing a black shirt, jeans, and black Converse sneakers. David took a black backpack containing his Bible and his cell phone with him. His family has stressed that it was highly uncharacteristic of him to not remain in contact with them.

The last trace of David's location was a ping from his cell phone at approximately noon on May 11, 2017. This signal placed him in the area of the Vander Veer Botanical Park in Davenport, Iowa. His phone has not been used since that time. While his family noted he was dealing with some personal issues around the time he vanished, they have consistently stated that he always kept in touch with them. He is described as an independent and resourceful person who has a love for the outdoors, particularly hiking and camping.

David is a white male with blue eyes and blond hair, who stood at 5'9" and weighed about 160 pounds at the time of his disappearance. He has numerous distinct tattoos, which are a key part of his description. These include the word "Stay" on the inside of his right elbow and "True" on the inside of his left elbow. He has a small anarchy symbol tattooed between the thumb and forefinger on his right hand and a smiley face in the same spot on his left hand. Other tattoos include the word "Beer" on the left side of his chest, a row of five stars on the right side of his chest, a peace sign on his right shoulder blade, a yin-yang symbol on his left shoulder, a marijuana leaf with "4-20" on his calf, and an unfinished cross on his arm. Both of his ears are also pierced.

The Bettendorf Police Department continues to investigate David's disappearance and periodically renews its request for public assistance. In the years since he went missing, his family and friends have founded a nonprofit organization named "Doing It For David," which not only seeks to find him but also raises awareness for other missing men. His mother has expressed the profound and lasting pain of not knowing what became of her son, a feeling that motivates her to help others in similar situations. The case remains unsolved, and his loved ones continue their search for answers.
