James Wells, 71, went missing on September 8, 2017, after a boating accident in Bogue Inlet near Newport, North Carolina. He was one of three individuals aboard a boat that capsized during the trip. Despite extensive efforts by the Coast Guard, his body was never recovered. Another person on board was found deceased, while a third survivor reported that Wells had been unresponsive for over two minutes in the water before disappearing.
