Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott, a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire (UNH) student, was last seen on October 9, 2012. She attended an evening chemistry class and texted a friend around 8:55 p.m., indicating she was on her way to visit a friend named Kat. However, she never arrived, and her vehicle, a tan 2001 Mazda Tribute, was later found abandoned at the UNH campus. After a few days of searching, authorities suspected foul play.
On October 13, 2012, Seth Mazzaglia, a 29-year-old man from Dover, New Hampshire, was arrested and charged with Lizzi's murder. Mazzaglia claimed that Lizzi had died accidentally during a sexual encounter, but prosecutors argued that he had strangled her after she resisted his advances. Mazzaglia and his girlfriend, Kathryn McDonough, who had worked with Lizzi, were implicated in the cover-up of her death. McDonough later testified against Mazzaglia, revealing that they had disposed of Lizzi's body by dumping it into the Piscataqua River. Despite extensive searches, her body was never recovered, and it is believed to have been washed out to sea.
Mazzaglia was convicted of first-degree murder in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison. The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the crime and highlighted the dangers of manipulation and abuse in relationships.Last Seen: Oct 9, 2012
