On August 22, 2013, William “Billy” McIntyre, a 51-year-old fisherman from Cape Neddick, Maine, went missing after a late-night outing on his fishing vessel, *The Clover*, near Perkins Cove. That evening, McIntyre and several friends, including three women, went out to the bell buoy in the cove after a night of socializing. Witnesses reported that McIntyre undressed down to his boxers and jumped into the water. Shortly after, he was seen floating face down. Despite efforts by those onboard to retrieve him, they were unable to do so.

The Maine Marine Patrol, along with other agencies, conducted an intensive search for McIntyre. Over the course of two days, divers, side-scan sonar, and aerial searches were used to locate him, but his body was never recovered. The Coast Guard suspended its search on August 23, as it was deemed unlikely he had survived. McIntyre’s disappearance was a significant loss for the Perkins Cove community, where he was well-known as an experienced and beloved fisherman.

McIntyre was remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his deep ties to the sea, where he spent much of his life fishing for tuna and lobster. The circumstances of his disappearance remain open, though authorities continue to search the area during routine patrols. His family and friends continue to honor his memory, grieving his loss in the close-knit fishing community.
