Tomas Hammond, a 27-year-old fisherman, went missing on November 1, 2014, after his boat, the *No Limits*, sank during a storm off the coast of Matinicus Island, Maine. Hammond was aboard the 45-foot lobster boat along with another crew member, 15-year-old Tyler Sawyer, and the boat’s captain, Christopher Hutchinson. The *No Limits* capsized in rough seas approximately 12 miles southwest of the island.
Hutchinson survived the ordeal after being rescued by the Coast Guard.
He had been found in a life raft after setting off a flare. However, both Hammond and Sawyer were lost at sea and their bodies were never recovered. Despite extensive search efforts by the Coast Guard, covering over 130 square nautical miles, the operation was suspended due to severe weather conditions, which included waves up to 22 feet high.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Hutchinson, the captain, had been drinking alcohol and using drugs, including marijuana and oxycodone, before taking the crew out to sea in dangerous weather. Hutchinson later faced legal consequences related to the tragedy.
