Ahmad Solaiman Nourzaie, a 25-year-old University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) student, was last seen on January 18, 2016, at Bonny Doon Beach in Santa Cruz County. Ahmad and several other students had gone to the beach, and three of them used a rope to descend a cliff to stand on a rocky outcropping. A powerful wave unexpectedly swept Ahmad and two others into the ocean.
While one student managed to swim back to safety, Nourzaie and another student, Shireen Agha Ahsan, were lost to the sea.
Despite extensive search efforts by emergency responders, neither was found alive. Tragically, Ahsan's body was recovered over a week later at a remote beach, while Nourzaie’s remains have never been located. Authorities believe he likely drowned. Nourzaie, a senior majoring in Earth and Planetary Sciences, was deeply involved in UCSC's Muslim community. His disappearance has left a lasting impact on the campus and his community.
Though presumed deceased, Nourzaie is still officially listed as a missing person. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department continues to handle the case, urging anyone with further information to come forward.Last Seen: Jan 18, 2016
