On March 1, 2018, 52-year-old Alvin Lamont Breeden told his mother he was going to meet with friends and would be back later. He was last seen at a relative's home on Hemlock Avenue in Durham, North Carolina. Alvin, a devoted caregiver to his elderly mother and his sister who had mobility issues, never returned. Described by his family as a kind and helpful person who always put others first, his failure to come home was immediately alarming.
At the time of his disappearance, he was approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed between 185 and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with red trim, a red and white short-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and red and orange sneakers.
Alvin was a U.S. Navy veteran who, after an honorable discharge, was diagnosed with PTSD. Despite this challenge, he was a highly educated individual, holding a bachelor's degree in human resources management and a master's degree in human development and counseling. He had a history of working in group homes and as a counselor for Durham Public Schools. At the time he went missing, he was actively working towards a nursing assistant certification through a vocational rehabilitation program offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. He was under a doctor's care for his PTSD and was managing it well.
His family grew deeply concerned when he didn't return that evening, as it was entirely out of character for him. An official missing person report was filed a week after he was last seen, though it is unclear if the delay was due to the family's hesitation or advice from law enforcement. In the initial stages, his case received limited media attention. As weeks turned into months with no sign of Alvin and no activity on his bank accounts or with his social security number, his family's fears grew that he had met with foul play. The investigation into Alvin Breeden's disappearance has yielded very little information, leaving his loved ones without answers.
