In the summer of 2018, the community of Harrah, Washington, was unsettled by the disappearance of a local man, 43-year-old Jose Francisco Canales. A married father of seven, Canales was a familiar face in the small agricultural town. On July 6, 2018, he was seen at La Guadalupana, a local store and restaurant, where he cashed his paycheck. The following day, July 7th, he contacted his boss to let him know that he would not be coming in to work. This phone call was the last time anyone is known to have heard from him. After this, all communication from Canales ceased, and he has not been seen or heard from since, leaving his family and the community with a painful and unanswered void. At the time of his disappearance, Jose Canales was described as a Hispanic male, standing 5'8" and weighing approximately 145 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He had a beard and several distinguishing marks, including a one-inch scar on his left hand and a tattoo of a heart on his right arm or shoulder. When last seen, he was reportedly wearing a blue baseball cap, a long-sleeved t-shirt that may have been green, blue jeans, and brown tennis-style shoes. Canales was believed to be driving his gray 1994 Ford Ranger single-cab pickup truck with Washington license plate number B53351T. It's also possible that he had his green 2018 Polaris 450HO four-wheeler in the bed of the truck. The days following Jose Canales's last known contact turned into weeks, and then months, with no sign of him or his vehicle. The Yakima County Sheriff's Office opened a missing person investigation, but despite their efforts and the circulation of his information, no significant leads have emerged to explain his sudden disappearance. The case has been noted for its lack of available information and the mysterious circumstances under which Canales vanished. The absence of any contact, financial activity, or sightings has left his case unsolved, a lingering question in the Yakima Valley. The investigation into what happened to Jose Francisco Canales remains open, a poignant reminder of a husband and father who seemingly vanished without a trace.
