Carla Valpeoz, a 35-year-old visually impaired woman from Detroit, Michigan, went missing during a solo trip to Peru in December 2018. Valpeoz had initially traveled to Peru with her friend, Alicia Steele, for a wedding. After spending the first part of her trip in Lima, she extended her stay to visit Machu Picchu and other tourist attractions, planning to return to Detroit later in the month.
