In the late summer of 2014, concern grew for 29-year-old Amber Marie Smith, a woman of Native American and Hispanic heritage, who vanished from her Detroit, Michigan home. The day before she went missing, on August 13, 2014, she had mentioned plans to visit her mother in the nearby city of Warren. On the morning of August 14th, her husband, Dennis Gentz, left their home on Radnor Street around 8:30 a.m. and noted that Amber was still in bed.
