Cynthia Ancona, a 37-year-old woman from Yarmouth, Maine, disappeared on February 26, 1976, after dropping her son off at school. She was never seen again. Authorities suspect that Cynthia may have walked into a river and drowned intentionally, though her body was never recovered. Footprints leading to the river, alongside those of her dog, were discovered, but the dog's prints returned without hers, suggesting that Cynthia may have entered the freezing water.
