Kaye Meyer, also known by several aliases including Helen Deuchar and Kaye Johnson, was 80 years old when she disappeared from her home in Monson, Maine, on August 24, 1986. She had been living with her granddaughter in a rented house at the time. The day before her disappearance, her granddaughter had left the house for an overnight trip. When she returned the next day, she found Kaye missing.
Critical personal items, such as Kaye’s cane, cigarettes, and purse, were left behind, which immediately raised concerns about her whereabouts.
Kaye had difficulty walking due to a broken ankle from a recent fall, suffered from poor eyesight caused by cataracts, and had been described as having periods of senility. These factors, combined with her tendency to remain close to home, suggested that she would not have ventured far on her own. A local man reported seeing her walking slowly between her house and garage around noon on August 23, but no further sightings were reported.
